Summary

This position serves as the primary care physician for a panel of patients and reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer - Primary Care and Community Medicine at the William C. Tallent VA Outpatient Clinic located in Knoxville, TN.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree:

Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.

Licensure:

Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.

Residency Training:

Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with verified practice experience.

Additional Eligibility:

Residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work on a fee or intermittent basis, under supervision.

Language Proficiency:

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements:

As per VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

Duties

Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of the James H. Quillen VAMC.

Maintain clinical proficiency with the Computerized Patient Record System.

Provide comprehensive outpatient care to adult patients within the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Model, utilizing telehealth resources.

Manage primary care needs and coordinate sub-specialty evaluations and treatments.

Contribute to quality standards, efficiency, process improvement, and patient satisfaction.

Order diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and consult with specialty services using VA applications.

Potentially serve as a clinical preceptor for mid-level practitioners.

Practice according to professional standards and values, with a commitment to service excellence.

Establish collegial relationships with staff and maintain a safe, satisfying environment for staff and patients.

Perform flex duties such as covering for absent providers, walk-in appointments, and overflow patients.

Other duties as assigned.
