Overview
Cardiologist - FT - Sioux Falls VA. This position is for a full-time non-invasive and non-interventional cardiologist. The Cardiologist will be responsible for consultative services and developing treatment plans for the management of Veterans in outpatient, inpatient, Community Living Center and emergency department settings. The incumbent will provide evaluations and treatment recommendations regarding patients with cardiovascular conditions.
Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school
Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State/Territory/Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia
Residency Training: completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Approved residencies: (ACGME) or (AOA) or other residencies with five years of verified practice in the United States
Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs); PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may be appointed on a intermittent or fee-basis
PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; scope of practice is supervised
English proficiency (spoken and written)
Minimum 3 years experience in Cardiology; board certification preferred
Physical requirements: pre-employment examination or evaluation; able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
Duties

Provide full-time cardiology services as a non-invasive and non-interventional specialist.
Responsibilities include consultative services and developing treatment plans for Veterans in outpatient, inpatient, Community Living Center, and emergency department settings.
Provide evaluations and treatment recommendations for patients with cardiovascular conditions.
Establish professional relationships with clinicians and staff across the facility and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
Interpret ECGs, Holter and event monitor recordings, and transthoracic echocardiograms; perform and interpret transesophageal echocardiograms.
Perform treadmill, pharmacologic, nuclear and echocardiographic stress tests; participate in urgent assessments and consultations as part of the patient care team.
Perform cardioversion procedures; review pacemaker/AICD transmissions and adjust settings as needed.
Coordinate care at VA and non-VA referral centers for cardiac services not provided in the facility; utilize telemedicine to enhance patient care.
Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm.
