Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school. Current unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency must be approved by ACGME, AOA, or other deemed equivalent programs. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred: Board certification or eligibility in Anesthesiology. Physical requirements include the ability to perform duties in a hospital setting, heavy lifting, reaching, use of fingers, walking, bending, and good vision and hearing. Duties
The Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System (SAVAHCS) in Tucson, AZ, is recruiting a full-time anesthesiologist to provide high-quality anesthesia care to veterans. The facility is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Arizona, with medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through. The position offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including: Sign-on bonus and student loan repayment (EDRP) Competitive salary, performance bonuses, and regular increases Paid time off, including annual leave, sick leave, holidays, and CME leave Federal retirement and insurance benefits Licensure and CME reimbursement opportunities Liability protection with tail coverage Responsibilities include providing direct patient care and supervision in various hospital locations, primarily supervising CRNA/resident cases (~95%), with some own cases (~5%). The work schedule is full-time, Monday-Friday, with options for 4-day shifts. At-home call is required, with current rotation of 1 in 9 to 1 in 10. Certification in BLS/ACLS is mandatory. The hospital does not perform OB, pediatrics, or level 1 trauma cases.
