Psychiatrist
Hidden River opened its doors in July of 2019 as the first residential treatment center for individuals with eating disorders in the State of New Jersey. Hidden River provides a program of recovery and healing for girls and young women struggling with eating disordered and related mental health difficulties. To achieve this, Hidden River offers a beautiful facility in a peaceful, natural environment, and utilizes compassionate, goal-oriented clinicians working as a team to help motivate patients to confront barriers and resistance to change. Patients are treated with respect and dignity while acknowledging the seriousness of their illnesses and the sense of urgency required to expedite movement toward health. Treatment is focused in interrupting the specific destructive symptoms and behaviors constituting the illness, while addressing and minimizing, whenever possible, the underlying causative or maintaining factors involved. Family therapy and education are important components of treatment. Hidden River is located on 12 acres of beautiful grounds in the charming and bucolic town of Chester, in Morris County New Jersey. The 15-bed house, built in the 1920’s has been completely renovated and modernized while maintaining its old-world character. The striking common areas feature large windows with panoramic views of the surroundings, the bedrooms and bathrooms are well-appointed, and multiple patios permit easy access to outdoor time.
Responsibilities: Meet with each patient upon admission to complete initial psychiatric evaluation and admission orders. Meet weekly with each patient to assess current clinical condition (both medical and psychiatric), perform psychotherapeutic interventions, assess response to current medications, make medication adjustments as necessary and prescribe new medication as clinically indicated. Meet additional times with any patient needing medication changes or other psychiatric support outside of regular weekly meeting. Present medical / psychiatric updates on each patient at twice-weekly treatment planning meetings and receive updates from other disciplines. Participate in family treatment planning meeting during first week of stay. Meet or speak by phone with patient’s parents regarding patient clinical matters including psychiatric diagnoses and medication changes and / or complications as necessary. Order laboratory tests and / or medical services. Collaborate with staff physicians (pediatrician / adolescent medicine / internist) or other medical clinicians regarding each patient’s medical needs and care. Provide physical exams, assessments and evaluations as needed if staff physician is not available. Ensure that patients are referred to appropriate outside providers / specialists during their stay when their medical needs cannot be met by Hidden River. Communicate and collaborate with outside psychiatrists of current and former patients. In preparation for discharge, ensure patient’s follow-up care includes medical / psychiatric services as appropriate. Complete discharge or transfer order for each patient leaving the program. Provide order for any patient going to the Emergency Room. Conduct doctor to doctor utilization reviews and appeals as needed. Participate in joint therapy sessions to provide medical / psychiatric input when clinically indicated. Participate in weekly Milieu Meeting. Meet with patients and / or families on admission and / or ongoing as needed to address questions / concerns, problem-solve, help patients acclimate to and remain in program. Provide on-call and emergency consultation and emergency medical or psychiatric orders for patients as needed. Document all evaluations, medication management visits, medical procedures, other patient or family visits, and telephone contacts with family or outside providers in EMR. Document Psychiatric and Medical components of course of treatment in Discharge Summary.
