Defense Health Agency Overview This position is located at Guthrie Ambulatory Care Center, Behavioral Health Department, Fort Drum, NY. Fort Drum is located in the picturesque Thousand Islands Region of northern New York State, in one of the most unique and beautiful areas of the United States. It is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west and the Adirondack Mountains to the east. Home to the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum’s mission is to support Soldiers and their Families with quality installation support, reflecting their service and sacrifice. Specializing in biomedical approaches and psychotherapies for mental illnesses. Assessing, managing medications, and making hospitalization arrangements for psychiatric patients. Conducting evaluations for emotional, psychological, and behavioral disorders, including emergencies. Providing follow-up care for chronic conditions and complications. Performing initial patient assessments. Recognizing early physical, emotional, and mental health issues. Maintaining accurate medical records in compliance with regulations. Making independent clinical judgments regarding diagnosis, treatment, and referrals, adhering to HIPAA standards. Upholding professional ethics and standards. Leading quality assurance initiatives. Making critical decisions impacting patient care, including hospitalization and fitness assessments. Overseeing psychiatric residents, interns, and students. Qualifications Must have a Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school or equivalent foreign degree certified by ECFMG. At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree, such as an internship or residency. Full, unrestricted medical license in the U.S. Minimum of 5 years of residency or equivalent experience in Psychiatry, with skills in inpatient, outpatient, and consultation services. Note:
Education cannot substitute experience for this role. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. Only degrees from accredited institutions recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable. Other Requirements Proof of U.S. Citizenship. Childcare Background Check (CNACI). Participation in drug testing and signing DA Form 5019 if selected. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must register with the Selective Service. Seasonal influenza vaccination required; exemptions may be granted. Pre-employment physical and immunizations, including Hepatitis B, may be required.
