Responsibilities
Serve as the senior staff officer on duty in the Emergency Department.
Examine patients and order appropriate tests to evaluate patient complaints.
Triage, resuscitate, and stabilize trauma and medical patients across all age groups.
Perform authorized emergency procedures.
Provide professional guidance to physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and physician assistant students.
Record all medical data on prescribed forms and complete necessary administrative functions.
Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations.
Basic Requirements:
Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a U.S./Canadian accredited school.
For foreign MDs, equivalence demonstrated by ECFMG certification, fifth‑pathway certificate, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Current, active, full, unrestricted state (or D.C., PR, or U.S. territory) medical license or registration.
At least one year of supervised clinical experience (internship or residency first year). For Emergency Medicine, completed accredited residency or equivalent of at least four years.
Additional Requirements:
Board certification in Emergency Medicine preferred.
Extensive, current emergency medicine experience (≥20 hrs per week for 12 months) in a similar or higher level emergency care setting.
Must be able to obtain and maintain ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certification.
Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian providers.
