Overview Provides preoperative assessment and support in collaboration with the health care team members. Serves as first assist to the surgeon during cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures under direct supervision of the attending surgeon. Works in collaboration with the surgeons and health care team members to facilitate optimal outcomes for patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgery. Promotes efficiency, continuity of care and postoperative support. Communicates with other team members to ensure critical information is relayed throughout the perioperative period.
Responsibilities
Provide preoperative assessment and support in collaboration with the health care team.
Serve as first assist to the surgeon during cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures under direct supervision of the attending surgeon.
Collaborate with surgeons and health care team members to facilitate optimal outcomes for patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgery.
Promote efficiency, continuity of care and postoperative support.
Communicate with other team members to ensure critical information is relayed throughout the perioperative period.
Qualifications
RN First Assist track: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing or equivalent; Current license to practice nursing in the state of Ohio; Completion of an accredited RN First Assisting course; CNOR certification or willingness to pursue and maintain certification; CPR certification and maintenance.
Or Physician Assistant track: Completion of formal Physician Assistant training from an accredited program with NCCPA certification; Approved by Ohio State Medical Board of standard or supplemental physician assistant utilization plan and supervision agreement between supervising physician and physician assistant; Credentialed by Summa Health System.
Experience and training: Three years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery and perioperative nursing.
