JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Perfusionist is a senior leadership role responsible for managing the perfusion services within NCH Comprehensive Health. This position oversees the clinical, administrative, and operational aspects of perfusion, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, and other extracorporeal therapies. The Chief Perfusionist provides direct patient care, manages staffing and scheduling, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, and hospital leadership to optimize patient outcomes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Provide advanced perfusion services for adult cardiac surgery, including cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, VADs, and other mechanical circulatory support devices. Monitor and manage physiological parameters, anticoagulation, blood conservation, and organ protection strategies during procedures. Maintain expertise in current perfusion techniques, technologies, and evidence-based. Attend, participate, and engage in perfusion-related continuing education courses on an annual basis. Leadership and Administrative Direct and supervise the perfusion team, including recruitment, training, mentoring, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Develop, implement, and monitor policies, protocols, and quality assurance programs to ensure patient safety and compliance with STS, Joint Commission, AMSECT, ELSO and other regulatory standards. Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to coordinate perfusion services and optimize workflow. Manage departmental budget, equipment acquisition, inventory, and vendor relationships. Lead continuing education, professional development, and training initiatives for staff. Serve as a liaison between hospital administration and the perfusion team. Quality and Compliance Collect, analyze, and report perfusion quality metrics and outcomes. Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and national regulations governing perfusion practice. Lead accreditation and certification processes for the perfusion department. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Cardiovascular Perfusion or related health science field, Masters degree preferred. Graduation from an accredited perfusion training program. Minimum 5 years of clinical experience as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) required, with demonstrated leadership experience preferred. Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) or eligibility is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification preferred from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage operations, and foster collaboration in a multidisciplinary environment.
