Note:

This is a hybrid role requiring that you work onsite 2x per week in our Redwood City, CA office. Local candidates only. No relocation.

What You’ll Do

Lead the Zero Data initiative: enable customers to use our product without data leaving their network. Collaborate with engineering architects to define guarantees and stage milestones for deliverables.

Clarify and validate customer requirements: uncover the why behind statements like “no data may leave our servers” or “we’ll migrate if XYZ,” validate blockers, and secure commitments before engineering investment.

Productize internal platforms: transform foundational systems (e.g., query execution service, cloud connectivity service) into documented, spec-first services with clear APIs, release notes, and ownership. Treat the internal Alation platform as a product with customers, needs, and usage in mind.

Communicate complexity simply: create diagrams, service definitions, and security materials that help sellers, executives, and customers understand and move forward.

Support enterprise adoption: partner with Sales and Product Marketing to navigate security reviews, pricing/packaging of enterprise features, and escalations with high-stakes customers.

What You’ve Done

Built or PM’d technical products (platforms, APIs, infra, developer tools, or security-sensitive features).

Worked with cloud infrastructure concepts (containers, networking, observability, Kubernetes, etc.).

Worked closely with engineers and architects to author specs, APIs, or architecture diagrams that shipped.

Navigated enterprise conversations around security, compliance, or data residency.

Made complex systems understandable to executives, sellers, and customers.

We’d Love To Hear About

An architecture diagram or spec you authored, and how it guided decisions.

A time you defined an interface or API and managed versioning/release notes.

A customer or internal situation where you pushed back, uncovered the real need, and changed the plan.

Experience accelerating enterprise security reviews or migrations through clarity and documentation.

Compensation Pay Range $190,631.00 - $257,352.00
