STORE MANAGER F/T — Goodwill of Southern New England
Summary: Under general direction and/or supervision of the Vice President, Retail Operations, and/or their assignee, the Store Manager is responsible for overall store operations including collections, processing, sales, financial performance, loss control activities and personnel management. Regularly supervises work for more than ten subordinate sales personnel at any given time. May be required to lay out and supervise work for community service workers and supported employment work crews.

Will typically be required to work regular weekend (i.e., Saturday, Sunday), holiday and evening hours customary to the retail trade. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Store Operation
Oversee the proper handling and processing of incoming and outgoing materials: on-site donations; merchandise received from donation centers and/or other stores; processed goods; salvage goods; and waste. Maximize used goods processing through the proper application of Goodwill techniques, including sorting, preparing and pricing items for sale. Meet or exceed production goals on a consistent basis. Maximize sales performance through proper rotation, pricing, display, signage, promotions and inventory of processed merchandise. Meet or exceed sales goals on a consistent basis. Ensure quality customer service by self and employees in a timely and courteous manner to all shoppers, donors and other employees; be available for telephone customer relations activities. Ensure proper management of supported employment work crews and community service workers assigned to the store. Maintain sales floor appearance, cleanliness and shopping environment including, but not limited to, floor care, fitting rooms, cash register and customer service areas, aisles, trash receptacles, lights, restrooms, glass showcases, window ledges and doors; maintain an odor-free environment. Ensure doors, cash registers and restrooms are kept in proper working order. Maintain exterior building and parking lot appearance and safety, including windows, doors, sidewalks, lights, dumpster area, landscaping, stray carts, signage and entryways. Maintain processing area appearance, housekeeping and work environment; maintain all equipment in proper working order. Periodically inventory selected areas; ensure backrooms and production are kept in accordance with Kaizen procedures.
Financial
Effectively and efficiently manage the store budget including payroll, achieving processing goals, generating revenue and controlling expenses. Ensure proper cash management including enforcement of cash register procedures and submission of required reports. Check daily cash report and receipts; ensure daily pick-ups and deposits at designated bank. Safety, Security And Loss Prevention
Ensure store and surrounding premises are kept clean and free of safety hazards; ensure health, safety and emergency procedures are understood and followed by all store employees. Designate a staging area for "Z" racks; keep aisles, corridors and production areas free of clutter; ensure trip hazard prevention; secure sharp objects; ensure an adequate supply of protective gloves; spread ice melt as needed for safety. Immediately report unsafe conditions; complete and submit a work order for approval; report and investigate suspected fraud; notify Loss Prevention as appropriate. Open/close the store daily per schedule; operate security and safety systems; manage bank deposits; complete incident reports; adherence to cash management policies; conduct quarterly fire drills and internal safety inspections; follow shipping/handling protocols for donated products. Supervisory Responsibilities
Interview, hire, train and direct store personnel; maintain positive morale; plan, assign and direct work for assigned staff to support sales and production goals; comply with Agency policies and applicable laws. Assess employee performance; conduct evaluations; reward/discipline as appropriate; address complaints; ensure timely personnel changes and reporting. Schedule employees to meet operations needs; ensure adherence to GWSNE policies, safety regulations and CARF standards, if applicable. Other Duties
Perform bank transactions necessary to store operations and have access to transportation for travel to/from designated bank; be on Alarm Responder Roster and respond to alarm calls as required; provide contact information to receive alarm calls; compensation for alarm call time as per Agency policy. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before individuals or groups of customers or employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume. Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Other Skills And Abilities
Sufficient knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles to accurately maintain basic store records; general knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); good working knowledge of or ability to learn the value of brand-name apparel and other merchandise; high integrity and business ethics. Physical Demands
Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds; push crates up to 600 pounds; assist customers with donations and purchases; ability to handle large/heavy items with staff assistance as needed; proper lifting techniques required. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, and color vision. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Protective eyewear and gloves must be worn as described when using certain cleaning and handling equipment; latex gloves provided for sorting credentials but not required. Work Environment
Environment is usually hectic with deadlines and production quotas; temporary reassignment to other locations may occur. Occasional exposure to wet conditions, moving parts, high places, fumes, weather, and electrical hazards; noise level is moderate; typical of a busy retail environment.
