Overview
Future Opportunity: Director of Mortgage Operations – Hiring for 2026. Location: Maine or New Hampshire (Kennebunk or Camden, ME with flexibility across Maine or NH for the right candidate). Anticipated Start Date: January 2026. This role involves planning ahead for a retirement replacement and starting the search now to identify the right person in advance. Responsibilities
Supervise and lead Mortgage Operations teams, including Processors, Underwriters, Closers, Quality Control, Shipping, Construction, Consumer, Mortgage & Retail Risk Administration, and System Administration. Oversee daily operations to ensure loans are processed, underwritten, and closed efficiently and in compliance with standards. Manage and allocate resources to meet fluctuating loan volumes and deadlines. Collaborate with Sales, Compliance, Audit, Special Assets, Credit Risk, Risk Management, IT, BSA, Information Security, and Finance to resolve complex loan issues and ensure cross-department communication. Negotiate with vendors and conduct annual due diligence. Train and mentor Operations team. Oversee SOX testing and reporting; participate in internal and external compliance audits. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Policies and Procedures: Create, maintain, and implement policies to enhance efficiency, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. Regulatory Compliance: Review processes to adhere to regulations and mitigate compliance risks; identify gaps and address potential penalties. Loan Origination Systems: Utilize loan systems to streamline applications, ensure accurate documentation, and perform compliance checks. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risk; understand market trends and regulatory changes to protect the organization. Financial Analysis: Analyze data to inform loan approvals, post-close requests, risk management, and strategic planning. Process Optimization: Improve loan workflows, reduce turnaround times, and drive customer satisfaction. Customer Relationship Management: Manage customer interactions and expectations to ensure smooth processing and loyalty. Qualifications
Higher education and/or at least 5 years of mortgage industry experience. At least 5 years of experience with portfolio and secondary market investor guidelines (FNMA, FHLMC, and investor overlays). At least 3 years of experience with government-insured mortgages (UFMIPs, USDA, VA, FHA). At least 3 years of experience working with external auditors (private mortgage companies, USDA, VA, FHA). Preferred Qualifications
At least 3 years of experience managing people and processes. Skills And Abilities
