The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing financial reporting, general ledger activities, and month-end close processes while ensuring compliance with GAAP and healthcare-specific regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills and experience in the healthcare industry, with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and collaboration across departments. This role reports to the VP of Accounting and is based in the West Loop office.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
Coordinate and lead the month-end and year-end close processes
Analyze revenue cycles, patient billing, collections, and third-party reimbursements
Collaborate with billing, coding, and clinical departments to ensure accurate financial data
Prepare and post journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded accurately
Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
Provide support for the month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting needs of the organization as directed
Assist with bi-weekly payroll review, processing and analysis
Research and respond to questions and provide account analysis on GL account and financial statements line-item fluctuations
Maintain and update fixed asset schedules and depreciation records
Support the preparation of financial statements and reports
Assist with audits, both internal and external, by providing necessary documentation and explanations
Assists in the preparation of periodic miscellaneous reports and analysis for senior leaders
Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable functions as needed
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies
Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as assigned
Education, Experience, and Systems Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
3+ years of relevant accounting experience
CPA or working towards CPA certification
Familiarity with financial reporting and forecasting tools
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or SAP)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Strong analytical, mathematics, process and systems knowledge
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Knowledge of GAAP is required
Compensation This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $80,000 - $120,000 depending upon the candidate\'s skills and experience.
