Duties & Responsibilities
Purpose of Position :
Under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, provides treatment and services, and assists in the administration of occupational therapy program, in a health care setting for patients with physical, developmental or emotional disabilities to help patients achieve best physical and/or mental functioning in daily life tasks and maintain and promote optimal physical health. Acts in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations and occupational therapy standards of care; performs related work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities : 1. Assists in the evaluation of the patient's needs, performance of activities of daily living and degree of function. 2. Instructs assigned patients in activities of daily living such as washing, dressing, eating, and handling of such assistive devices, such as braces and wheel chairs. 3. Instructs patients on and assists patients in carrying out therapeutic activities and exercises to improve their physical and mental well-being. 4. Assists in identifying and recommending adaptive equipment fabricated splints, and other assistive devices, regularly reassessing the patient's needs and the effectiveness of the equipment and making adjustments, as necessary. 5. Participates with supervisor in the evaluation of and communication of patient's progress to physician. 6. Assists supervisor in the development of a written care plan for integration into a total care plan. 7. Assists supervisor in the development of a maintenance program for other patient care personnel for follow-up purposes. 8. Assists supervisor in setting-up programs for the patient's caregivers in the home setting. 9. Prepares work materials, maintains equipment, and requisitions supplies. 10. Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid license and current registration to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
