The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) and the Office of Diversion and Reentry seek qualified candidates to fill emergency Management Secretary III vacancies related to homelessness.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. Before the initial work period ends, you will be assessed on your work performance (weight 100%). Those who pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment as Management Secretary III.

Mission & Definition
MISSION: To advance the health of patients and communities by providing extraordinary care.
DEFINITION: Acts as secretary to a deputy director in a large and complex County department. Responsibilities include managing correspondence, screening callers, scheduling, directing inquiries, maintaining confidential files, and supervising other staff as needed. May participate in revisions to office procedures and assign work to others.
Requirements to Qualify
OPTION I: One year of complex and highly responsible secretarial experience at the level of Secretary V, Senior Secretary III, Senior Secretary IV, Management Secretary I, or Management Secretary II.
OPTION II: One year of experience at the level of Staff Assistant I, assisting a manager of a line operation within a County department, with housekeeping and record-keeping responsibilities and administrative studies.
OPTION III: Two years of highly responsible secretarial experience at the level of Secretary III, Secretary IV, Senior Secretary I, or Senior Secretary II.
TYPEWRITING SKILL REQUIREMENT: Ability to type at 40 net words per minute. Applicants must meet requirements at the time of filing.
Typing Test Information
A qualifying typing test of 40 net words-per-minute is required for applicants who have not held a typing position with the County. If you have a typing certificate from another County department, attach or email the certificate within seven days of the filing date. Those who have not taken a County typing test may apply to the Typing Test-Score Banking Only process via link to the announcement bulletin. The following candidates are not required to take the County typing test: those who currently hold or have held a County typing position with the requisite words-per-minute.
PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light: Administrative and clerical positions with light physical effort; occasional lifting to 10 pounds; possible bending or stooping.
Special Requirement Information: All secretarial classes perform similar duties; positions are allocated for full-time personal secretarial support to supervisors. The level of secretary depends on the supervisor served.
Assessment & Vacancy
OUR ASSESSMENT PROCESS: Before the end of the initial work period, the department will evaluate performance. A passing score leads to consideration for permanent appointment.

AVAILABLE SHIFT: Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
