Psychiatric RN Job Details

• Position Type: Locum tenens (travel RN contract)
• Location: Kansas City, MO 64130 – Missouri healthcare jobs
• Setting: Behavioral Health Units (ADOL, Serenity, ITU, SRAD, VINE)
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (August 18, 2025 – November 17, 2025)
• Patient Ratios: Nurses 8:1, Mental Health Technicians 12:1
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1,680 - $1,730 per week
  
  

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri or compact state
• Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing or behavioral health RN experience
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Current CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification
• Ability to work three 12-hour night shifts per week, including weekends
• Strong assessment, crisis intervention, and therapeutic communication skills
  
  

Psychiatric RN Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients' mental health status, recognizing signs of psychiatric disorders, substance use, and behavioral health issues
• Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients with mental health and behavioral challenges
• Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support for patients in acute distress
• Monitor patients for physical and psychological symptoms, including vital signs and mental status changes
• Build trust and rapport with patients through effective therapeutic communication
• Float between behavioral health units as needed to meet patient care demands
• Document all nursing care and interventions accurately in Meditech
