Estimating & Preconstruction

Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents with a focus on asphalt paving, milling, and site development. Perform detailed takeoffs, calculations, and cost assemblies for asphalt, aggregates, trucking, and related scopes. Prepare accurate cost estimates using HCSS HeavyBid and other takeoff tools. Build detailed estimate structures supported by production-based work plans. Maintain and update a bid log of upcoming opportunities, tracking status from pursuit to award. Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure scope coverage and competitive pricing. Identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies during the bid process. Prepare bid proposals and present recommendations to company leadership. Project Management & Execution

Transition successful bids into projects by coordinating with project managers, superintendents, and field staff. Develop project schedules, manpower/equipment plans, and budgets. Conduct pre-job planning meetings to align field teams with scope, production goals, and safety expectations. Manage day-to-day project activities including production tracking, subcontractor coordination, and schedule adjustments. Monitor field performance versus estimate assumptions; communicate variances and implement corrective measures. Process and track project submittals, RFIs, change orders, and material certifications. Prepare and submit progress billings, T&M tickets, and final pay estimates. Conduct regular site visits to ensure work meets safety, quality, and client standards. Manage project closeout, including final quantities, warranty items, and documentation. Collaboration & Leadership

Build and maintain strong client relationships with owners, DOTs, municipalities, and private developers. Collaborate with internal teams including ownership, superintendents, mechanics, and the logistics department. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior estimators or project engineers as needed. Represent Brewster Companies professionally at pre-bid meetings, project kick-offs, and client progress meetings. Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience considered. 5+ years of experience in asphalt paving/civil construction estimating and project management. Strong understanding of asphalt paving methods, milling operations, grading, trucking logistics, and material specifications. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); advanced Excel skills preferred. Experience with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid) and electronic plan takeoff software. Familiarity with DOT (MoDOT, IDOT) and municipal specifications and bidding processes. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams. Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously. Proven ability to build relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
