Job Summary
The Sr. Buyer is responsible for managing procurement operations across one or more manufacturing sites, supporting $50-$200 million in spend. This role ensures timely purchasing, supply continuity, and compliance with company policies, while collaborating cross-functionally to resolve issues and improve processes. Strong follow-up and follow-through are essential to ensure materials are received and payment issues are resolved.
Job Description
Procure Goods & Services:
Execute purchases using SAP (Material Management and Service Modules), ensuring alignment with contracts and internal procedures
P2P Process Oversight:
Manage the full Procure-to-Pay cycle: PR creation, PO issuance, receiving, invoicing, and payment resolution
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, finance, and AP teams to ensure materials are received and payment issues are resolved efficiently
Supplier Management:
Maintain vendor relationships, conduct performance reviews, support onboarding, updates, and compliance.
Issue Resolution:
Investigate and resolve invoice/payment mismatches, receiving discrepancies, and vendor-related concerns. Familiarity with AP processes is important
Process & System Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve procurement workflows and system usage; ensure data accuracy and reporting
Follow-Up & Follow-Through:
Proactively track procurement activities and ensure timely closure of open items, including deliveries and payment issues
Skills Required
3-5 years in procurement, supply chain, finance, or manufacturing Systems Knowledge:
Proficient in SAP (especially MM and Service Modules), supplier portals (e.g., Ariba), and Microsoft Office tools.
Manufacturing Background
Understanding of manufacturing operations and supply chain dynamics.
Vendor & AP Familiarity:
Experience with vendor registration/updates and working with AP to resolve payment issues
Project Coordination:
Ability to manage cross-functional projects using tools like trackers, calendars, or whiteboards
Communication & Ownership:
Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and accountability for follow-through on procurement tasks
Specific Skills:
Good knowledge of manufacturing concepts in alignment with specific procurement knowledge Good interpersonal skills (interacting with global virtual organizations) Good communication and presentation skills Good negotiation skills Good quantitative, analytical, conceptual, and planning skills Good cultural awareness Good change management skills Cross-functional experience and the ability to independently manage multiple tasks Knowledge of and experience in petrochemicals: technology, business economics, and market dynamics and value drivers Basic Legal knowledge in relation to contracts Competencies:
Highly skilled with ERP-type systems, including the Material Management Module, Service Module, Supplier Invoicing Interfaces, Supplier Qualification Highly skilled with computer software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and MS Projects or equivalent Education/Training/Certifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university or equivalent experience accepted (Prefer Procurement, Supply Chain, Finance, Business Management, Audit) CIPS / CMCP or equivalent certification preferred Additional Requirements
Work Hours: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; or 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (Flexible) Pay Rate/Salary
$35.00 - $45.00/hr. depending on experience
