Position Overview:
The CMAis responsible for providing residents with distributing physician prescribed medications and treatments under the supervision of a licensed nurse and within the boundaries of the Nurse Practice Act of the state. CMA responsibilities can include helping residents bathe, maintain proper hygiene, feeding residents, delivering/passing medication to residents and ensuring they take their medication and assessing vital signs.
Essential Job Functions:
Accurately and safely prepares, administers, and documents the administration of all appropriate, physician-ordered medications and treatments under the leadership of a licensed nurse, in accordance with federal and state regulations, the Nurse Practice Act of the state and professional standards while honoring person-centered and resident-directed care. Ensures that all medications and treatments are administered in a manner supporting resident direction, choice, and dignity. Follows all facility policies and procedures, as well as standards of nursing practice in medication administration. Dispenses medication following the 5 rights of medication administration. Which are as follows: right resident, medication, dose, routine, and time. Supports facility procedures for resident self-administration of medications, encouraging residents to actively participate in the process as much as possible. Observes residents closely for needs, changes in condition, refusal, or reaction to medications and immediately report to licensed nursing staff. Provides restorative therapy under the leadership of therapy professionals and in accordance with the resident's functional maintenance plan. Care for the residents' personal laundry. Preparing each resident's room with necessary items: blankets, pillows, medical equipment, and toiletries. Assist housekeeping by cleaning rooms, when needed (dusting, taking out trash, vacuuming). Attends to all resident personal hygiene and personal care needs, including but not limited to grooming, hygiene, dining and nutritional, mobility, elimination, and safety needs. Organizes all supplies necessary to complete the tasks. Monitoring vitals and behavior and reporting them to the nursing and/or medical leaders. Qualifications and Experience:
Must be a minimum of 16 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have a CMA license in the state of Kansas CPR certified. Demonstrates proficiency at reading and understanding a Resident Plan of Care or assignment (e.g. ADLs and introductory visits) Understands quality of care objectives. Understands quality of life objectives. Competency evaluated, tested, and registered with the state of Kansas. Completion of cross training for neighborhood/house activities, social service, housekeeping, laundry, and food service and handling required. Spanish bi-lingual capabilities are a plus. Physical Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of a state approved program for nursing assistants and medication administration; valid CMA license required. Demonstrates proficiency at reading and understanding a Resident Plan of Care or assignment (e.g. ADLs and introductory visits) Understands quality of care objectives. Understands quality of life objectives. CPR certified. Competency evaluated, tested, and registered with the state of Kansas. Completion of cross training for neighborhood/house activities, social service, housekeeping, laundry, and food service and handling required. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
