Summary: A Stepdown RN provides care to patients transitioning from intensive care to medical-surgical or general inpatient units. These patients require frequent monitoring and specialized nursing interventions. The nurse assesses and manages complex patient needs, administers medications and treatments, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and telemetry data; respond to abnormalities
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments with a focus on cardiac care
• Prepare equipment and assist physicians during cardiac-related procedures
• Maintain patient comfort and safety for telemetry patients
• Document patient conditions and notify supervisors or physicians of status changes
• Respond to life-saving situations per nursing standards and hospital protocols
• Document nursing history and physical assessments for telemetry patients
• Initiate patient education plans focusing on cardiac health and risk factors
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to safety and regulatory standards
• Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice
• Comply with infection control guidelines and safety protocols

Required Qualifications

• One year of recent experience as a Stepdown RN
• Current RN license in the state regulations
• Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
• Current ACLS Certification (AHA/ARC)

Preferred Qualifications

• Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN)
• NIHSS Certification
• Other certifications and licenses may be required

• English language proficiency
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions; basic PC skills
• Physical ability to move and lift equipment (50–100 lbs)
• Team collaboration and professionalism
