Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Winston Salem, NC 27103 (North Carolina healthcare jobs)
• Facility Setting: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – 8th West Tower Pulmonary
• Assignment Type: Locum tenens / Travel RN contract
• Start Date: September 8, 2025
• End Date: January 26, 2026
• Contract Duration: 20 weeks (16–20 weeks available)
• Shifts per Week: 4 shifts per week, each shift is 12 hours
• Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36 (option for up to 48 hours/week; overtime after 48 hours)
• Unit Size: 48 beds
• Patient Ratios: 1:4–5 (may flex to 1:6 in rare cases)
• Orientation: 24 hours
• Scrub Colors: White or navy blue
  
  

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU or high-acuity Med-Surg RN experience required
• Active North Carolina or Compact Registered Nurse license (must be valid by start date)
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Proficient in IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry, CPAP/BiPAP, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Experience with Epic charting preferred
• Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
• First-time travel nurses welcome to apply
  
  

Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with pulmonary and cardiac conditions, including COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, flu, pulmonary embolism, and acute respiratory failure
• Manage patients with chest tubes, tracheostomies, chronic ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, and continuous telemetry monitoring
• Administer and monitor cardiac and vasoactive drips (Dopamine, Cardizem, Heparin) according to established protocols
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including respiratory therapists, vascular access team, admission/discharge nurse, and assistant nurse manager
• Float to similar PCU or Med-Surg units as needed per facility requirements
• Maintain strict adherence to attendance and call-off policies
• Participate in unit orientation and complete ongoing education modules as required
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation using Epic EMR and follow SBAR communication protocols
