Overview

The Chronic Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering clinically competent hemodialysis care to patients with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD). This includes assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care in accordance with nursing standards and regulatory guidelines. The RN will support a collaborative healthcare environment focused on improving outcomes and patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and effective hemodialysis treatment per protocol and patient condition
• Perform ongoing assessments pre-, during, and post-treatment; document patient status
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and transplant options
• Delegate tasks to care team (LPNs, PCTs) as appropriate
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team on plan of care
• Administer medications and initiate emergency response measures as needed
• Support lab collection, processing, and rescheduling
• Ensure regulatory and safety protocols are followed
• Participate in staff training and act as a clinical resource when assigned
• May be required to travel to other locations or training sites

Required Experience

• Graduate of accredited School of Nursing
• Current IN RN license
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Minimum 1 year of Nephrology Nursing in the past 2 years
• 3+ months chronic or acute hemodialysis experience

Nice-to-Have Experience

• Supervisory or charge nurse experience
• Prior experience training or mentoring new staff

Required Skills

• Hemodialysis clinical knowledge
• Effective documentation and communication
• Strong teamwork and patient advocacy
• Understanding of infection control and safety procedures

Additional Skills

• Understanding of transplant modalities
• Familiarity with Ishihara Color Blindness screening
• Ability to lift/move patients and operate dialysis equipment
• Flexibility to adapt in high-demand healthcare environments
