PICU RN Job Details

  • Estimated Weekly Salary: $2,250 - $2,310 per week
  • Employment Type: Locum tenens (Travel contract)
  • Location: Omaha, Nebraska 68114
  • Unit: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (19:00 - 07:00)
  • Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 10/20/2025 – End: 1/19/2026)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Facility: 32-bed PICU, Level II trauma center
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2 (day/night/weekend)
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Required (to NICU, CCU, or Med/Surg as needed)

PICU Registered Nurse Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year in a large pediatric hospital PICU
  • Experience with ventilator management, intubation, and sedation
  • Servo vent experience required
  • Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma experience preferred
  • Diploma, Associates, or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current valid Nebraska RN license or RN Compact license
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through AHA
  • Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Certified Pediatric Nurse or Certified Critical Care Nurse certification preferred
  • Experience with EPIC charting system preferred
  • Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome

PICU Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide expert pediatric critical care to patients with complex medical and surgical needs (respiratory, trauma, neuro, non-cardiac)
  • Manage ventilators, intubation, sedation, and advanced airway procedures
  • Float to NICU, CCU, or Med/Surg units as needed
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV, respiratory, physical therapy, and pharmacy
  • Maintain accurate documentation using EPIC electronic health records
  • Participate in weekend coverage and rapid response situations
  • Follow infection control and PPE protocols
