Pediatric Oncology RN Job Details

  • Location: Little Rock, AR 72202 – Explore Arkansas healthcare jobs in a lively city with outdoor recreation and cultural attractions.
  • Unit: 4K Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (26 beds)
  • Position Type: Travel Registered Nurse (locum tenens)
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (Monday–Sunday)
  • Weekly Hours: 36
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 10/6/2025 – End: 1/4/2026)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:3–4 (Travel RNs typically not assigned 1:1 patients)
  • Orientation: 2–3 days plus pediatric oncology specialty testing
  • EMR: EPIC
  • Ancillary Support: 1–2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) per shift; respiratory therapy available
  • Floating: Required to other pediatric nursing units
  • Scheduling: Managed by unit; every other weekend and holidays required

Registered Nurse Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Arkansas or compact state
  • Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience in pediatric oncology nursing
  • APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses) certification required upon submission
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications required
  • Biotherapy Provider and Bone Marrow Transplant experience preferred
  • Must pass fit test (no facial hair unless for religious reasons)
  • Nicotine-free status required (must test negative for nicotine)
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations, prioritize, and delegate effectively

Pediatric Oncology RN Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to pediatric patients (ages 0–21) with oncology and hematology diagnoses
  • Administer IV medications, including blood transfusions, antibiotics, stem cell infusions, and chemotherapy
  • Support pediatric patients through surgeries such as resections and port placements
  • Collaborate with Child Life and Education Specialists to meet patients\' schooling needs during hospitalization
  • Float to other pediatric nursing units as required
  • Participate in orientation and pediatric oncology specialty testing
  • Adhere to hospital dress code and compliance standards
  • Utilize Epic EMR, Pyxis, and bar code scanning for safe medication administration
