Job Overview The Experienced Estimator will be a key contributor within the estimating team, specializing in the preparation of accurate and competitive bids for construction projects with a focus on flooring, countertops, and window blinds. This role requires strong analytical skills, logical thinking, attention to detail, and an inquisitive, process-oriented mindset. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of construction industry practices and sound mathematical abilities to create precise cost estimates that align with project specifications and client expectations while working in multiple market segments including multifamily, hospitality, senior living, commercial and higher education. Key Responsibilities Project Analysis & Information Gathering • Develop detailed, accurate cost estimates for projects involving flooring, countertops, and window blinds, ensuring all estimates align with project scope, specifications, and client requirements. • Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to identify project needs and determine accurate material, labor, and equipment costs. • Review historical data and market trends to inform and refine cost estimates, accounting for potential variables and project-specific conditions. Project Analysis & Information Gathering • Conduct in-depth analysis of plans, specifications, and addenda to identify critical project elements and potential challenges. • Engage with suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to gather information on material pricing, product availability, and lead times. • Display a healthy curiosity by asking insightful questions, exploring options, and uncovering potential cost-saving opportunities. Data Management and Process Adherence • Ensure that all estimates are documented, stored, and organized according to company standards, maintaining easy access for future reference. • Follow established estimating procedures and contribute to refining processes for enhanced efficiency, consistency, and accuracy in bid preparation. • Collaborate with the Director of Estimating and team members to ensure alignment on processes and continuous improvement. Risk Assessment and Value Engineering • Identify and assess potential risks, providing clear explanations of cost drivers and potential impact on overall project budget. • Contribute to value engineering by identifying alternative materials or approaches that maintain quality while reducing costs. Team Collaboration and Communication • Work closely with other estimators, project managers, and procurement teams to ensure seamless project handoffs and consistent understanding of project requirements. • Communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that bid submissions accurately reflect project requirements and specifications. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered. Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of estimating experience in the construction industry, preferably with an emphasis on flooring, countertops, and window blinds. Skills • Strong logical thinking, mathematical skills, and analytical abilities. • Detail-oriented and process-focused, with excellent organizational skills and high accuracy in calculations. • Proficiency in construction estimating software, such as RFMS, Callidus, Bluebeam, or similar tools, as well as Microsoft Excel. • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. • A curious, inquisitive nature, with a commitment to continuously improving processes and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Preferred Qualifications • Certification in Estimating, Construction Management, or related fields (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator). • Familiarity with industry-specific standards and materials in flooring, countertops, and window treatments. • Exposure to Lean or Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement.
