Heavy Equipment Operator Instructors (Part-Time) at Virginia Western Community College, part of Virginia's Community College System. Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on an as-needed, course-by-course, semester basis.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students in heavy equipment operation in classroom settings (lecture/simulation) and laboratory environments.
• Train under National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) guidelines; use the NCCER Heavy Equipment Operators Curriculum.
• Participate in program assessment; use computer applications including Microsoft Office; support the School of Career and Corporate Training (CCT) as needed.
• Perform other instructor-related duties to support the program and department.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a heavy equipment operator; experience with maintenance, safety, soils, print reading, grade work, and supervision.
• Experience with computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel) and online applications.
• Must complete NCCER CORE and HEO Level 1 training/credentials within 3 months of hire.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to develop syllabi, exams, learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments; ability to work with diverse student backgrounds.

Additional Considerations

• Experience training on Caterpillar simulators; off-campus equipment operation; NCCER-related credentials; OSHA 30 for Construction; classroom HEO instruction in accelerated formats; experience with CAT simulation software and LMS (e.g., Canvas).
• Associate’s degree in a Career and Technical Education field preferred.
