The Secretary II Radiology reports to Unit Management. Responsibilities include managing the written records and reports that comprise the patient’s medical record for each admission/visit, processing physician orders, and maintaining chart forms for nursing staff. The role may involve scheduling appointments, cases, and add-ons, and entering charges for services. It also requires maintaining open communication between nursing staff, physicians, and inter-departmental personnel and the patient.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to HMH and unit-specific policies and procedures; maintain a clean, safe, and ergonomic environment; manage equipment and report malfunctions.
- Perform clerical duties with minimal supervision; provide clerical support to facilitate unit operations (e.g., sort mail; request internal services).
- Coordinate staffing by adapting work schedules and floating as needed to meet unit needs.
- Enter orders for tests in ancillary departments (Lab, X-Ray, EKG, Diet) as noted on patient charts; proficient in computer usage for guest/patient transactions.
- Direct internal and external customers to proper destinations; interact courteously with visitors and staff; exercise good judgment and independent thinking.
- Prepare and maintain patient charts (admissions, transfers, discharge, preoperative, postoperative); file materials as requested (care plans, lab reports); thin charts as needed.
- Transcribe physician orders and prioritize tasks; ensure timely documentation for nursing staff use.
- Maintain guest/patient census; update information in the computer system; communicate with Admitting and Staffing.
- Maintain supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate availability and proper ordering within guidelines.
- Provide timely telephone coverage and handle messages related to patient care.
- Input and process medical data accurately in the computer system; ensure complete charges and diagnoses before discharge.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned; adhere to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma or GED or equivalent programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite).

Compensation and Benefits
The posted rate may be stated as an hourly rate or annual salary in the offer, depending on job duties and credentials. Some positions may include performance-based incentives, bonuses, or shift differentials. HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits. Minimum rate of $20.32 per hour.
