Responsibilities

  • Transcribe and transmit doctor’s orders to appropriate areas under supervision of a registered nurse, and confer with charge nurses regarding patient activities and tests.
  • Follow up on written and oral instructions; report matters requiring immediate nursing intervention.
  • Perform clerical functions for physicians within the scope of the Unit Secretary role.
  • Answer telephone and call light systems, take messages, and communicate promptly.
  • Manage call bells, ensure proper staff notification, and handle census sheets, acuity sheets, transportation logs, dietary requisitions, and other forms.
  • Assist with patient admission and discharge paperwork and obtain medical records from other facilities.
  • Compile and maintain patient charts, enter information, and ensure all documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Place telemetry stickers on charts for patients on telemetry daily.
  • Ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and safeguard all medical information.
  • Maintain emergency charts, manage patient discharge processes, and ensure proper organization of patient records.
  • Ensure a tidy work environment, proper functioning of equipment, and deliver excellent customer service to enhance patient satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Preferred: Minimum of six months clerical experience.
