Adjunct Pool American Sign Language Instructor
Join to apply for the Adjunct Pool American Sign Language Instructor role at Inside Higher Ed. The Adjunct Instructor Pools are for applicants who are interested in teaching in the future as a part-time adjunct instructor for one of our departments. The Instructor Pools are always open for applications. This does not mean there is an immediate opening in the division. The pool functions as a way for department chairs to view applicant materials in advance of a need and determine if the applicant will be added to the pool of eligible applicants. If a part-time instructional need arises, the chair will review approved applicants to determine fit and may schedule an interview.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned course which may include day, night, and online courses, as well as at the main campus and extension centers. Classes are to meet on time for the full allotted time.
- Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximizes documented student learning.
- Prepare, submit and maintain reports related to student learning.
- Grade assignments in a meaningful way to promote student growth, return graded work promptly, and assign final grades in accordance with institutional deadlines.
- Provide educational assistance to students during posted times or by appointment.
- Encourage student opinion survey completion and review results to assist with increasing student success.
- Maintain professional knowledge and comply with required training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- Master's Degree in discipline or 18 credits in the specific discipline.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Certification from a nationally recognized ASL organization and 2 years teaching experience.
- Experience with computer software and technology necessary for implementing course materials and instruction; ability to write in grammatically correct English; demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
Preferred
- College level teaching experience; familiarity with current teaching and learning theories; knowledge of Blackboard or other teaching platforms; experience with networked and technology-based classrooms.

Physical & Work Environment
Physical, mental and environment requirements include detailed work, student contact, deadline orientation, problem situations, multiple priorities, confidentiality, and working with others. Physical demands include standing, walking, seating, carrying, talking or hearing, and the ability to adjust and focus. Travel to all campus locations may be required. The environment is a normal office setting with potential for travel between campus locations.
