Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Software Engineering Department Manager (Manager Software Engineering 3) , to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Redondo Beach, CA.

This Department Manager reports directly to the Air Dominance, Apex, R&AD and Common Products Software Center Engineering Director. You will be responsible for the software engineers across the entire program lifecycle and will set operating objectives while providing mentorship to first line Section Managers.

A successful candidate will have the qualities and essential functions:

  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with senior management, peers, and employees.

  • Provides ownership for the people, processes, and tools that support divisions and programs achieve their missions.

  • Accountability for recruiting, staffing and retaining talent to deliver on the objectives.

  • Supporting proposal work, independent technical reviews, program standup and audits, and special assignments on an as needed basis.

  • Owning and leading improvements across employee engagement, hiring, development, training, attraction, and retention of top talent.

  • Mentor, develop, and train your section managers, and overall employee base.

  • Coordinates modification records for management control.

  • Establishes change orders and prepares for change authorization and documentation by company and subcontractor.

  • Reviews and analyzes released engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and engineering data control activities.

  • Interface with all levels of leadership to maintain and exceed health and performance for all programs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 9 years of related professional experience that includes a background in software development, OR a Master’s degree AND 7 years of related professional experience that includes a background in software development.

  • 9 years of software experience including Software Project Manager or Integrated Product Team Lead in Aerospace applications.

  • Experience in Leadership and management of a large team.

  • Experience in all phases of the Software Development lifecycles.

  • Experience in planning staffing requirements.

  • 5 years of management experience such as Section Manager, Staffing Manager, Assistant DM.

  • Knowledge, experience and familiarity with all phases of the software development life cycle.

  • In depth understanding of NGAS Engineering processes.

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top-Secret Clearance and Special Program Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree AND 7 years of related professional experience that includes a background in software development.

  • Understand NGAS Sector Engineering procedures.

  • Experience as a Software Project Manager for teams greater than 50.

  • Experience as a certified Agile Software Development Coach.

  • Familiarity with Northrop Grumman Software Development processes, CMMI Level 3 or higher, AS9100, or DO-178.

  • Experience in collaboration with other leads (SEIT, Avionics, Vehicle and Test) in a team-oriented environment to achieve program goals.

  • Green or Black Belt Lean / Six Sigma training and experiences.

  • Relevant experience from the Defense and/or Aeronautics industry.

  • Excellent communication (written, oral, and presentation) and engagement skills.

  • Active TS Clearance or Program Access.

Salary Range: $187,000 - $280,600

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
