Overview
Pinal County is seeking a staff professional in accounting to perform basic accounting work involving recording, accounting, and reporting of financial and technical transactions for County funds and assets. The role processes accounting and technical documents according to County policies and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Review, approve, and post documents and computer accounting entries; perform general ledger maintenance, revenue tracking, reconciliations, special fund accounting, capital assets, and financial reporting.
- Record revenue and expenditures to the correct fund, cost center, object code, and sub-ledger to the General Ledger by researching, writing, and posting journal entries and deposits.
- Research, write, and post journal entries and ensure adjustments to the General Ledger are recorded correctly.
- Process payment requests, check runs, and payroll.
- Assist in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and work with auditors as directed.
- Oversee County fixed asset recording, inventory, tracking, valuations, salvage, auctions, depreciation, and reporting; monitor procedures for compliance with fixed asset system management standards.
- Review, reconcile, and process vendor payments, invoices, and other payment requests.
- Conduct special research and analysis projects; summarize data and generate reports.
- Post accounting transactions to computer ledgers; review source documents for compliance with rules and regulations; ensure proper handling of accounting transactions within designated limits.
- Maintain accounting records and filing systems; enter data into computer systems and update accounts.
- Provide customer services, respond to information requests, and resolve issues by researching files and records within authority; refer matters requiring policy interpretation to supervisor.
- Cross-train in other accounting duties and assist with training of Finance Department and County staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate's degree in Accounting or related field.
- Three (3) years of accounting and computer experience.
- Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Valid Arizona State Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of GAAP and GAS principles for public sector financial administration.
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal statutes, rules, codes, and regulations governing public sector accounting functions.
- Knowledge of department policies, procedures, and regulations; ability to maintain records and apply accounting standards.
- Skill in maintaining accurate accounting records and reconciling errors; ability to meet critical deadlines and provide effective customer service.
Physical Demands
Work is sedentary and may require exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; ability to finger, perform repetitive motion, hear, speak, and maintain mental and visual acuity.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a safe and secure environment that may periodically present unpredicted requirements or demands.
