Job Summary
The IT Specialist is a blend of technical, server and network support, requiring the ability to troubleshoot end-user, server and network issues. This position will be responsible for setting up and maintaining servers, workstations and the network. Additional duties include monitoring for and troubleshooting potential issues with the environment and system patching. The IT Specialist will oversee and participate in all operational activities, including network system administration, capacity planning, network performance, data and network security as well as backup and restores. This position requires strong communication and technical skills, as well as the ability to be adaptable and troubleshoot problems.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee all network activity, systems administration, backup, restoration and capacity planning: Ubiquiti
- Provide data and network security
- Build, Maintain and Support Physical and Virtual Servers Environments: Ubuntu Linux and Proxmox
- Responsible for creating new user accounts for new employees and removing the accounts of ex-employees. Assist non-IT employees with any technical issues and data transfers
- Develop and implement Server maintenance standard operating procedures
- Support, troubleshoot and image workstations
- Keep upper management informed with regular reports
Education And Experience (required)
- Bachelors degree in IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems
- U.S. Citizen allowing for ITAR compliance
- Minimum four years of experience encompassing LAN, WAN and Telecom
- Experience with capacity planning and performance monitoring techniques and tools
- Ability to solve complicated problems and deal with a variety of variable situations
- Operating System Experience: Windows Server, Windows Desktop 10 and 11, Ubuntu, Debian
- Experience with solutions: Fog (imaging), Proxmox (Virtualization), Intune, Ubiquiti Unifi, Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Gitlab, Zabbix (network monitoring), and related cybersecurity and IT management tools
Education And Experience (preferred)
- 6 years of IT experience
- Experience in designing, planning, and installing network and server hardware
Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities (required)
- Knowledge of network diagramming software (Microsoft Visio preferred)
- Ability to create scripts (VBScript, PowerShell, Perl, PHP and/or Python)
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN and WAN to troubleshoot and address server issues
- Knowledge of firewalls, proxies and databases to keep the network and user information secure
- Ability to act as a technical resource and participate in system/network projects; knowledge of backup
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with customers, vendors and team members
- Ability to multi-task effectively
- Knowledge of security on workstations, servers, switches, firewalls, and related devices; ability to maintain full system and procedure documentation
