Under general supervision, a Firefighter (H002) engages in firefighting and related activities for saving lives and property; administers first responder treatment, including first aid; and responds to various emergency situations involving public safety and medical care. Responsibilities may include fire prevention activities, including inspections of businesses, schools, and homes to ensure fire safety; maintaining station quarters; and other duties as assigned. Firefighters work 24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, living and working in close quarters with others at a fire station. They must cooperate effectively with team members. High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, California High School Proficiency Certificate). Driving Record:
Valid California Driver License (Class A, B, or C) by appointment. Applicants must not have disqualifying motor vehicle violations or license actions within the period described in the original posting, and will provide a full MV history during Background Investigation. Criminal Record:

The FCTC Written Test is a 100-question multiple-choice exam with four sections: recall/verbal/visual information, mechanical reasoning, mathematics, and technical information. A CPAT with a date within one year is required during Chief’s Interview and must be maintained through background packet due date. Candidates must have or be in the process of obtaining EMT-1 certification; CA Paramedic licensure may be used in lieu of EMT-1.
