As Legal Counsel with payments and fintech experience, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the legal framework for Deel’s global regulatory, fintech and licensing operations across the Company. You will partner with cross-functional teams and provide expert legal guidance on product development, regulatory requirements, licensing, and other critical areas to support the business. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented legal professional with a strong foundation in the payments industry, a passion for regulated financial services, and an entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindset ready to tackle complex challenges with practical solutions. Responsibilities
Establish and maintain the legal framework for global payments operations. Serve as the primary legal advisor for our financial and payment services, addressing product guidance, regulatory requirements, licensing and other pertinent legal concerns. Act as the main legal liaison for our payment product teams, ensuring legal and compliance standards are integrated into new product and business ventures. Develop and implement streamlined, practical, and scalable legal and compliance processes. Contribute to creating and enhancing internal legal and compliance protocols. Provide guidance on and track new laws and regulations affecting payment services. Facilitate the legal movement of employees across borders for business travel. Desired Skills and Competencies
5+ years experience as a qualified lawyer Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the legal aspects of the payments industry (e.g., money transmission, lending, banking services, or fintech) within a law firm or in-house legal setting. JD, LLB, LLM, or equivalent qualification, or authorization to practice law. Fluency in English; additional language skills are advantageous. Demonstrated interest in payments and regulatory consulting, with experience advising on legal issues in regulated industries. Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams across global regions, including collaboration with external counsel. Eagerness for navigating complex regulatory environments and crafting practical solutions. Entrepreneurial mindset with flexibility, initiative, and a strong work ethic. Excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying complex legal requirements into actionable advice. Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities. Manage relationships with internal and external counsel. Experience in a fast-paced dynamic startup and fast growth environment. Total Rewards
