Responsibilities
Provide police and security services while protecting life and property, performing patrol duties and carrying equipment such as batons and pepper spray. Patrol on foot and/or in motor vehicles, respond to emergencies, and enforce all applicable laws and university rules and regulations. Support the university community by establishing and maintaining a safe environment for all members to carry out their varied activities. Accurately prepare incident reports and safeguard information and evidence to support follow-up and resolution. Assist in preliminary investigations as necessary, support victims of crime, and attend court as required. In the absence of the Communications Officer, respond to telephone calls, emergencies, burglar alarms, fire alarms, and service requests. Conduct speaking engagements on topics identified through surveys and community feedback under supervision. Become well acquainted with members of the University community in furtherance of the university\'s objectives.

The Special Campus Police Officer is an integral part of University Safety. The role involves liaising with students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, visitors, neighbors, and external agencies (MPD, DCFD, FBI, USSS, etc.). The incumbent represents public safety and contributes to the department\'s reputation through professional conduct.
Requirements and Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalency Three years of general work experience with at least one year in security or a related field Eligibility to obtain and maintain a campus police officer commission Valid driver\'s license with no violations in the last three years and ability to pass Georgetown University\'s Driver\'s Certification Ability to complete required departmental trainings, including certification and arrest control tactics: baton and aerosol restraint training Knowledge of criminal and civil law and police policies and procedures Completion of the Campus Public Safety Institute (CPSI) (250 hours) or an equivalent law enforcement academy within two years of receiving a commission; Georgetown University may substitute prior law enforcement or security training for meeting the Academy requirements

The Special Police Officer is considered essential under University policy and may be required to be on call when necessary.
