Overview
The College of Engineering (COE) at Oregon State University seeks an energetic, entrepreneurial, and public-spirited leader as Head for the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). The School Head will collaborate with the Dean and COE leadership to identify, develop, and expand academic and research programs aligned with the College’s and University’s strategic plan, Prosperity Widely Shared. The School conducts discovery- and solutions-driven research in areas such as analog and mixed-signal electronics, artificial intelligence, end-user software, wireless and computing technologies, renewable energy, robotics, and transparent electronics. The position offers opportunities for leadership at the forefront of engineering education and research, including the upcoming Collaborative Innovation Complex and a high-performance supercomputer.
The School Head will provide organizational and administrative leadership for large-scale on-campus and online programs, including interdisciplinary programs. The Head serves on the COE leadership team and aligns the School with the College’s mission to achieve greater success. Key Responsibilities OPPORTUNITY AND EXPECTATIONS
25% Strategic Leadership of the School
Collaborate with the Dean and COE leadership to execute the College’s goals.
Develop and implement strategies leveraging the School’s strengths in line with OSU’s strategic plan and metrics.
Lead development of strategies to attract external research income and partnerships with industry and government.
Cultivate and develop industry partnerships and deepen existing ones.
Provide academic leadership of on-campus and online programs, including interdisciplinary programs.
Enhance academic excellence and program growth.
Engage in national/international service and contribution to academic societies and industry associations.
Create opportunities for the School to contribute to economic development and societal problem-solving.
Cultivate an open, welcoming climate for all.
25% Management of School Operations
Manage financial resources and budgeting.
Ensure high-quality student experiences, retention, graduation rates, and career outcomes.
Oversee operations and safety of laboratories and facilities; ensure compliance with accreditation and relevant agreements.
Supervise faculty and staff performance reviews; foster respectful relationships.
Build a leadership team to achieve School goals.
10% Teaching and Research
Lead and contribute to high-quality research productivity and graduate education.
May teach but is not required; develop philanthropic cases and collaborate with OSU Foundation to secure resources and donors.
10% Other responsibilities as requested by the Dean.
What You Will Need Qualifications and Characteristics
An earned doctorate in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field.
Successful managerial, financial, supervisory, and operational experience of academic and/or research programs.
A distinguished record in research, teaching, and service; Tenure at the level of full professor in COE is expected.
Experience promoting professional development, recruitment, mentorship, retention, promotion, and/or research.
Experience administering diverse graduate programs (interdisciplinary, bridge, international, 4+1, etc.).
Commitment to student success, timely graduation, and career development.
Dedication to recruitment, retention, and success of a diverse workforce; strong outreach and relationship-building skills.
Understanding of current issues in CS and ECE or related fields; experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; a criminal history check and position-adequacy determination are required. Self-reporting of convictions is required; additional checks may apply for youth programs.

Experience in academic administration at chair or higher levels, or equivalent.
Experience building online educational programs and securing internal/external support.

Experience leading diverse graduate programs and research commercialization.
Ability to inspire others and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
Awareness of the mission of a land-, sea-, space-, and sun-grant university.
Work Conditions and Compensation Pay Method
Pay Period 1st through the last day of the month. Pay Date: last working day of the month. Salary is commensurate with skills, education, and experience.
