Coder II
to join our team.
The primary responsibility of the
Coder i
s:
Ensures that records are correctly coded within 48 hours of discharge, excluding weekends and holidays.
Reviews chart thoroughly to ascertain whether all diagnoses/procedures are present in accordance with mandated coding guidelines related to ICD-10 CM coding principles.
Contact the responsible physician in a professional, tactful manner, with coding queries related to diagnosis, CPT and HCPCS if they are not available in the chart.
Utilizes computerized coding/abstracting equipment.
Meets quality standards of having 95% of principal diagnoses and procedures appropriately and/or correctly coded.
Maintains current coding knowledge through review of periodicals, articles, meetings.
The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
Required Licensure/Certification Skills: CPC, CCS, or CCS-P certification required Must be familiar with charting, NCCI, and coding requirements for multiple specialties, including ED, IP, OBSV, OP, pediatric, infusion, and SNF. 3 years of
experience preferred Associates degree or equivalent with 5 years recent acute hospital coding experience preferred. Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to effectively communicate (both verbally and in writing) Maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff across the organization Attention to detail essential.
