Overview
As the leader of the health care team, provides professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan of the organization. Remains flexible to changing systems; demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect.
Responsibilities
Leadership
– Upholds Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable laws; serves as a leader of the health care team; delegates tasks appropriately and demonstrates accountability; understands scope of practice and escalates issues; demonstrates professional, supportive behavior; champions new ideas; leads and directs others through change; utilizes communication strategies including chain of command and issue escalation; participates in problem identification and resolution; mentors, orients, and coaches others in unit operations and patient care; shares responsibility and authority with subordinates and holds them accountable; collaborates with other departments for problem resolution; prioritizes, delegates, and supervises work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities; complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Nursing Process
– Develops and/or contributes to the individualized plan of care reflecting assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes; ensures multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education; ensures plan reflects patient data, age-appropriate care, cultural needs, and acuity; discusses and completes plan with patient and family; monitors progress and revises the plan as needed; ensures care meets standards of practice; ensures discharge planning addresses barriers and patient/family education; ensures patient safety related to medications, procedures, falls, and infection prevention; optimizes pain control and addresses patient anxieties or concerns; ensures understanding of medication purpose, side effects, and administration instructions at hospital and discharge. Documentation
– Ensures charting is accurate, legible, dated, and timed; reflects nursing process and interventions; utilizes computer systems effectively for patient care. Clinical Outcomes
– Discusses patient findings and progress with physicians and the health care team; demonstrates competencies during probation and ongoing validation; makes nursing decisions based on data interpretation; participates in departmental performance improvement activities. Workplace Safety
– Adheres to safety principles and practices; applies standard precautions; maintains a safe environment for self and others. Patient Care Experience
– Practices customer service standards; responds promptly to call lights, alarms, and patient requests; facilitates referrals and resource utilization; protects patient confidentiality; maintains a clean and functional work environment; treats families with courtesy and compassion; provides information clearly to patients and families; strives to exceed expectations in patient care experience. – Organizes work to minimize overtime; identifies systems improvements; utilizes payroll and non-payroll resources efficiently. Qualifications
Experience
– 1-year recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in a Critical Care, DOU or SDU setting, or successful completion of KP Critical Care, DOU or SDU course (as appropriate) or approved equivalent within prior 12 months. Education
– N/A Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
– Registered Nurse License (California); Basic Life Support (American Heart Association); Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Additional Requirements
– Basic Arrhythmia course; Ventilator training. Preferred Qualifications

– If twelve (12) hour option chosen, shift will be 7:00 pm–7:30 am, back up 8 hour shift will be 11:00 pm–7:30 am.
