YMCA of Greater Houston Youth Development Director supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position develops, organizes and implements high-quality YMCA afterschool and day camp throughout the Greater Houston area. The Youth Development Director will create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while inspiring youth to discover their passions. This position will enthusiastically represent the Y by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.
YMCA Youth Development Directors build and maintain strong relationships with families, community, and YMCA centers through positive, proactive communication. They implement curriculum to meet licensing standards and improve quality through program evaluation and assessment. Youth Development Directors recruit, hire, and onboard YMCA site leads and counselors to deliver high-quality programs while maintaining fiduciary responsibility and oversight.
This position is located in The Woodlands, TX, and will support the Conroe ISD school district.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement high-quality YMCA afterschool and day camp programs.
Create a safe, positive, welcoming environment and inspire youth engagement.
Build and maintain relationships with families, community partners, and YMCA centers.
Ensure curriculum meets licensing standards and improve quality through evaluation and assessment.
Recruit, hire, and onboard site leads and counselors; provide oversight and fiduciary responsibility.
Qualifications
3-5 years of previous experience including 2 years supervisory experience in licensed childcare, preferred
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent (preferred)
Must meet Director qualifications as stated in the Minimum Standards (#744.1015) under TDPRS
At least 21 years of age
CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings
Previous experience with diverse populations
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations, examinations, and/or immunization as required by the local or State Department of Health
Available for trainings on occasional weekends and after hours
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience.
Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Travel Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
