College/Department Information The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University houses the Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine, which operates several core facilities (Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, Viral Vector Core, microscopy facility with multiphoton confocal, N-STORM, light-sheet microscopes, imaging flow cytometry) to support cellular and molecular neuroscience research.

Job Summary A training position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific technical and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory or clinical research setting. Responsibilities include research data collection and documentation, development and evaluation of new techniques, and publication of results. Performs a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, clinical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures.

Responsibilities

PROJECT PLANNING & PROTOCOLS:

Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to scientific principles and federal guidelines. Conduct experiments in animal behavior, cell biology and molecular biology, including animal surgery, microinjection, behavioral testing, genotyping, western blot, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry and various imaging techniques. Analyze results manually or with computer tools and develop programs if needed.

ARTICLES:

Compose articles for publication; review articles prepared by others.

GENERAL DUTIES:

Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel. Advise investigators, other Postdoctoral Fellows, students, and research staff on techniques and procedures.

TECHNICAL:

Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate microscopes and other complex equipment; instruct others in equipment use.

OTHER:

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.

Skills:

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.

Abilities:

Maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; willingness and ability to work with research animals; work independently with general supervision.

Shift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Days; Monday – Friday (work outside normal hours may be required)

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications within the established range (min-midpoint)
