The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University was founded nearly 200 years ago in 1828 as the nation’s fifth public medical school. It is the state’s flagship medical school and Augusta University’s founding school. The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine houses several key research resources, including the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, the Viral Vector Core, and a state‑of‑the‑art microscopy facility featuring advanced imaging technologies such as multiphoton confocal microscopes, an N‑STORM super‑resolution microscope, light‑sheet microscopes and imaging flow cytometry, supporting cutting‑edge research in cellular and molecular neuroscience. Job Summary
A position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory. Engage in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols, develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures, and contribute to publication in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, clinical, statistical/computational, and dissection procedures and manage the lab’s mouse colony. Participate in project planning and development of research projects. Develop and refine protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Perform a variety of experimental studies including cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and pharmacology experiments. Experiments may include but are not limited to animal behavioral testing, genotyping, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, collection of tissues, multiomic profiling. Analyze results of experiments and procedures and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis. Maintain and update spreadsheets documenting results. Responsibilities
Participate in project planning and development of research projects. Develop and refine protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Perform a variety of experimental studies, including cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and pharmacology experiments. Experiments may include, but not be limited to, animal behavioral testing, genotyping, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, collection of tissues, and multiomic profiling. Analyze results of experiments and procedures and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis. Maintain and update spreadsheets documenting results. Write manuscripts and develop research proposals in line with the laboratory’s research directions. Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work. Required Qualifications
Ph.D. from an accredited college or university. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to complete work and meet deadlines. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Ability to work independently with only general supervision. Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday – Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required). Salary: commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Position is fully/partially funded through external sources; continued employment contingent upon availability of these funds. Recruitment Period: Until Filled. Benefits that may be elected include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees who have been employed for more than 6 months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program. Conditions of Employment
