Overview The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire (Mediation Center) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to harness the power of volunteers to support community and individual conflict education, prevention, and resolution services. The Mediation Center builds more resilient communities through education, access to justice, and peaceful conflict resolution. Serving Chatham and surrounding counties since 1986, the Center provides mediation in civil and family law matters, restorative justice programs, conflict de-escalation services, and customized training for individuals, families, schools, organizations, and public systems. Its mission-driven work promotes health, safety, and well-being, social connectedness, compassionate communication, and trauma-informed interaction.

As the primary provider of proactive peacebuilding services in coastal Georgia, the Center operates at both individual and systems levels to address conflict before it escalates and to expand access to peaceful solutions. It harnesses the power of volunteers and community partners to deliver high-quality conflict education, prevention, and resolution services. What will you do as The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire’s next Executive Director?

The Mediation Center is seeking a dynamic

Executive Director

to lead the organization forward. The Executive Director provides visionary, strategic, and operational leadership for the Mediation Center. With a deep commitment to building resilient communities and fostering healthier relationships, the Executive Director ensures the organization’s mission is carried out through effective programming, sound financial stewardship, and inclusive community engagement. This role holds the responsibility for cultivating partnerships, strengthening internal culture, and elevating the organization as a leader in accessible conflict resolution and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

Demonstrated successful fundraising expertise.

The Executive Director must secure sustainable funding through strong relationships, cultivation of new revenue sources, donor stewardship, and effective grant and proposal writing. Grant management experience is essential. Long-term financial sustainability is critical to the Center’s success.

Strategic thinker with expertise in organizational management.

The Executive Director will be an experienced, effective manager who builds cohesive staff teams aligned with the Center’s vision. They will be a strategic thinker, able to engage the staff and board in a strategic, thoughtful process of growth. The Executive Director will have the ability to engage, manage, motivate and unite staff around common goals and strategies.

Strong community engagement and collaboration skills.

The Executive Director will be a strong listener, collaborator, and relationship builder. They will engage long-time stakeholders and forge new community connections that strengthen support for the Center. Building external loyalty and leveraging goodwill will be key to advancing the organization’s mission. New and expanded partnerships must be developed, providing additional programs or services for those served by the Mediation Center.

The Executive Director will inspire confidence and provide leadership to ensure a promising future for the Mediation Center. They will demonstrate integrity, respect, and sincerity, earning trust and motivating others. Through strategic vision, innovation, and commitment, the Executive Director will lead the Center to its next level of excellence.

Qualifications In addition to the leadership competencies and qualities listed, specific qualifications include the following:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration/health, business, conflict resolution, law, or related field preferred.

Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit, public sector, or mission-driven organizations

Demonstrated success in overseeing multi-program operations and supervising senior leadership

Experience in conflict resolution, mediation, or restorative practices preferred; willingness to obtain training if not already certified

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and media engagement; able to convey a passion for the Center’s mission

Proven track record in fundraising, including donor cultivation, major gifts, grants, and corporate/foundation partnerships

Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, fiscal oversight, and grant/contract compliance

Registered Neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution or eligible to register within 6 months of hire

Salary is commensurate with the requirements of the position and is in the $110,000 - $120,000 range. As an organization committed to the health and wellness of its team, the Mediation Center offers health insurance, paid time off, a robust onboarding process and professional development.
