Prepares, analyzes, or evaluates reports, plans, and policies for transportation planning projects and grant requests; uses technical, social, economic and physical data to forecast future conditions, impacts and trends. Designs, prepares, and coordinates the preparation of visual materials including graphs, charts, maps and models to illustrate presentations of transit and/or transportation projects. Reviews, interprets, and applies legislation and codes related to transportation planning to develop and implement transportation projects. Makes presentations to community, business and other groups to explain public transportation and/or other transportation projects. Assists in managing transportation projects and prepares requests for grant proposals and contract documents. Interprets and integrates transportation policy in the review of proposed development projects and environmental impact reports. Develops and coordinates transportation plans and projects including transit routes, service and operational changes, shuttle services and para-transit services; assesses traffic impacts. Evaluates technical aspects of transportation planning, capital, or operating projects involving various transit modes and options; analyzes auto, bicycle, and pedestrian transportation and paratransit impacts. Collects, compiles and analyzes data to prepare plans and proposals; maintains databases of transportation-related statistics. Applies computer-assisted analytical techniques to evaluate or forecast planning and operational data to support transportation planning programs. Prepares correspondence in response to public, Commission or agency inquiries. Qualifications

1. Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Transportation, Transportation Engineering, Public Administration or other closely related field OR 2. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; AND two (2) years of transportation planning experience. Substitution:

Additional transportation planning experience beyond the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the baccalaureate degree requirement on a year-for-year basis (30 semester units/45 quarter units equal one (1) year of experience). Written Multiple-Choice Examination (Weighing 100%). Candidates deemed eligible and admitted to the examination process will be administered a written multiple-choice test designed to measure knowledge, skills and abilities in job-related areas, including knowledge of transportation planning principles, statistics, information dissemination, problem solving, and human relations. This is a standardized examination; test questions and answers are not available for public inspection. A Multiple-Choice Test Preparation Manual is available on the DHR Website. Eligibility List/Score Report:

A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes. An examination score report will show ranks and final scores. The eligible list/score report may change after adoption as directed by HR Director or the Civil Service Commission.
