Steel Technologies is searching for Corporate Counsel to support our Legal Department and advise on a broad range of legal matters, with a focus on labor and employment. This position will support the legal team and serve as a legal advisor to the Company working with all levels of teammates, business groups and functional departments throughout the organization to foresee and protect the company from legal risks.
Overview
How you will contribute to our success: Responsibilities will encompass a wide range of the company’s legal affairs, including, but not limited to: Labor and Employment
– Advise on employment law matters, including discrimination, harassment, FMLA, ADA, wage/hour issues, and workers' compensation. Draft employment policies, conduct investigations, resolve disputes, and support Human Resources in employment decisions and training. Attend depositions, hearings, mediations, and arbitrations and manage outside counsel as needed. Compliance and Risk Management
– Identify and mitigate legal risks across employment practices, policies, contracts, and operations. Advise internal stakeholders on compliance and liability exposure and support proactive strategies to reduce employment matters risk. Research, draft, review, edit, develop, and draft Company policies, including the Company’s Code of Business Conduct covering all states in which the Company operates. Workers Compensation and OSHA
– Work closely with the safety department and all plants across the Company in investigating, responding to, and managing workers’ compensation claims and state and federal OSHA-related claims. Manage outside counsel and adjusters on all workers’ compensation claims across all states in which the Company does business. Litigation
– (Federal and State Jurisdictions) Research case law and statutes, review and organize documents; review, draft, and file pleadings; track deadlines; and attend depositions, hearings, and other matters; monitor and track collection and settlement items related to Company’s litigation. Manage and oversee outside counsel on litigation matters. Internal and External Contracts
– Draft, review, comment on, and negotiate various types of contracts, including customer and vendor agreements, terms and conditions, bailment agreements, lease agreements, letters of intent, confidentiality agreements, and credit agreements. Assist with contract disputes, concerns, and resolution. Corporate Transactions
– Support M&A activity, including legal diligence, documentation, and assisting with post-integration of acquired entities. Qualifications
Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school; active bar membership. 3-6 years of labor and employment law experience (law firm or in-house). Strong business acumen; experience with contracts and corporate matters a plus. Bachelor’s in Business or MBA preferred, but not required. What We Can Offer
