REGISTRATION, ACCESSIONING, AND LIAISON: Under the direction of the Administrative Manager, the Surgical Pathology Coordinator is responsible for the registration and insurance verification of consult cases received by the Pathology Service; accessioning of specimens according to approved protocols; documentation of materials received for all consult cases; and serving as the primary liaison between clients and BWH Pathology. The position manages the process for consult services and follows up on the timely receipt of slides and blocks. The coordinator provides registration, accessioning, and distribution of consult cases and coordinates communication with clients. Key responsibilities include: Registration of patients for BWH Pathology consult services; opens and organizes packages of materials sent for consult review Review consult materials, verify materials received against the description provided by the sending institution Independently troubleshoots missing reports, materials, patient demographics, insurance, and billing; alerts sender to discrepancies Determine if a case is billed to patient insurance or to an institution; if billed to insurance, ensure patient is registered with an MRN and CSN; 5a-c cover insurance verification, demographics data collection, and eligibility verification If billed to the institution, select the appropriate client information in PowerPath; act as primary client contact to obtain essential information Follow-up to obtain information not available at registration time; may contact physician offices for essential dates for processing and billing Accessioning into PowerPath : accessions cases into the Pathology LIS (PowerPath) per established procedures; determine Department or Private Consult; enter information after requisition evaluation Proofread requisitions, accession materials, and labels; ensure two patient identifiers Create and print barcoded labels for slides and blocks; ensure accession number matches slides/blocks File cases with requisitions and pathology reports and scan into the delivery location Distribution of Cases Distribute consult cases to appropriate staff pathologists for review; prioritize rush/priority cases; use service shelf/mailbox or pathologist mailbox as appropriate Communicate with supervisor regarding priority/triaging issues; maintain ongoing communication for complex cases Additional Responsibilities Type final reports; proofreading, editing, and ensuring accuracy Scan requisitions and outside pathology reports into the laboratory information management system Print billing invoices and forward to billing office Support reception desk for incoming calls and inquiries Perform miscellaneous administrative tasks (faxing, courier prep, delivery/pick-up of materials on campus) Assist Administrative Manager with Training of Surgical Pathology Coordinator I Maintain departmental policies and participate in quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control efforts Perform other duties as directed Qualifications

Knowledge of intermediate medical terminology. Experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting preferred. PowerPath and EPIC knowledge preferred but not required. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to type 60 WPM with high accuracy. Education High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree preferred. EEO Statement
