Overview
Marion VA Medical Center is seeking a part-time Gastroenterology Physician to join their Specialty Care team.
Responsibilities
Performing diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy procedures
PEG placement
Esophageal dilation
Diagnosing, treating and managing patients referred for management of GI disorders including liver disease, Hepatitis C, and liver transplants based on standard and customary methods and techniques in the outpatient setting
Gastroenterology on-call responsibilities will be shared with the other Gastroenterologist(s) on staff. The physician will report to the Chief of Medicine or his designee. The physician shall be expected to cooperate with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review and other performance improvement activities at the direction of the Chief of Medicine.
Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
Subject to background/security investigation.
Must pass pre-employment physical examination and complete onboarding requirements (including acceptable forms of identification).
Board Certified/Eligible; ERCP Skill preferred.
Basic Requirements: MD or DO from schools approved by VA; current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state or territory; approved residency training leading to board eligibility; English proficiency.
Work Schedule Part-time, 10 hours per week.
Compensation and Benefits Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, and up to 5 CME days).
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% VA contributions.
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care; many programs transferable into retirement.
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (full-time with board certification).
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage.
Contract: No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
Education Debt Reduction Program This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Details on program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Additional information available from the VA or the PPR and program offices.
