The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing seeks a Chief Business Officer (CBO) to serve as an advisor to the Dean, a member of the school’s leadership team, and a transformational executive-level leader who works on critical financial, administrative and operational matters across the school. The CBO reports directly to the Dean and supports the Dean by implementing financial and human resources strategies, addressing risk management and operational challenges, and developing the administrative and operational direction of the school. Responsibilities
Leadership: Serve as a member of the Dean’s leadership team and work with the Dean and school leadership to advance strategic goals and priorities in business, personnel, facilities and technology operations; carry initiatives through to successful completion. Lead, develop, and retain high-performing business and administrative professionals; provide business, human resources, IT and other administrative support; serve as a resource to faculty and staff. Act as liaison to the Provost’s Office, Budget Office, Financial and Administrative Services and other university offices; participate in relevant councils and committees. Financial Oversight: Provide strategic counsel on initiatives, resources, opportunities and challenges; oversee daily business operations and ensure resources are deployed wisely. Manage accounting, reporting, forecasting, purchasing, contracts, accounts payable, travel, and cash management; maintain internal controls and policy compliance. Oversee annual representation letters and account certifications; review and approve account requests and expenditures. Prepare, review and monitor the school’s budget and coordinate five-year planning documents. Provide regular financial reports and ad hoc analyses to the Dean and senior leaders. Human Resources: Oversee HR administration and compliance; participate in HR Leadership Council. Implement HR goals and priorities; develop equitable policies and procedures and respond to evolving labor markets. Collaborate with university-wide HR and business offices to support HR goals; oversee merit and performance appraisal processes. Manage financial faculty hiring commitments. Building Management: Oversee facilities operations and renovation projects; advise on space allocation. Coordinate security staffing and on-site security operations. Monitor facilities and coordinate with staff, vendors and campus for in-person meetings. Information Technology: Oversee technology needs and set goals for technology operations and budget. Collaborate with School of Nursing technology personnel and LAITS to meet desktop and technology needs of faculty and staff. Other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related field. Ten years of progressive administrative experience including financial planning, forecasting, cost and financial analysis, budget management, accounting and reporting, and human resources management within a large organization. Demonstrated ability to communicate financial data to non-financial stakeholders. Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills and professional demeanor. Ability to operate creatively and effectively in a complex academic and business environment across all levels, including faculty, deans, central administration and senior institutional officials. Competencies: personnel management, team building, organizational savvy, operational functions, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, prioritization, planning, organizational change management, results delivery, relationship management and collaboration. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field with more than ten years of relevant leadership experience. Experience in financial and business operations in an academic healthcare department, school or college with clinical operations. Experience in a large academic department head office, dean’s office or provost’s office of a public higher education institution. Knowledge of the full HR lifecycle for faculty, staff and student employees. Familiarity with university information systems (DEFINE, COGNOS, PowerBI, Workday, etc.). Salary
$145,000+ depending on qualifications Working Conditions
