Responsibilities

Leadership

Serve as a member of the Dean’s leadership team and collaborate with the Dean and school leadership to advance strategic goals in business, personnel, facilities, technology operations, and related initiatives. Carry initiatives through to successful completion.

Lead, develop, and retain high-performing business and administrative professionals providing business, human resources, IT and other support. Serve as a resource to faculty and staff.

Serve as liaison to the Provost’s Office, Budget Office, Financial and Administrative Services and other university offices. Participate in relevant councils and committees as required.

Financial Oversight

Provide strategic counsel on initiatives, resources, opportunities, and challenges while ensuring daily operations advance the school’s mission and resources are deployed wisely.

Oversee all business and financial matters including accounting, reporting, forecasting, purchasing, contracts, accounts payable, travel, and cash management. Maintain internal controls and compliance with policies and regulations. Oversee account certifications and balance reviews.

Prepare, review, and monitor the school’s budget and coordinate five-year planning documents. Provide regular financial reports and ad hoc analyses to the Dean and senior leaders.

Human Resources

Oversee HR administration and ensure compliance with policies and regulations, including clinical compliance for faculty and staff. Serve on the HR Leadership Council.

Develop and enforce consistent policies and procedures; respond to evolving labor markets in a competitive and sustainable manner.

Collaborate with university-wide HR and business offices to implement HR priorities and goals; oversee merit and performance appraisal processes.

Manage faculty hiring commitments.

Building Management

Oversee facility operations and management, including renovation projects; provide input on facilities operations and space allocation.

Coordination with security contractors to provide security staffing and on-site security operations.

Coordinate within the School building and across campus for in-person meetings and events.

Information Technology

Oversee technology needs and operations, setting goals and budget for IT.

Collaborate with School of Nursing technology staff and LAITS to meet desktop and technology needs of faculty and staff.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related field.

Ten years of progressive administrative experience in financial planning, forecasting, analysis, budgeting, accounting and reporting, and HR management within a large organization. Ability to communicate financial data to non-financial stakeholders.

Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills and professional demeanor.

Ability to operate creatively and effectively in a complex academic and business environment with faculty, deans, central administration, and senior officials.

Demonstrated competencies: personnel management, team building, organizational savvy, operations, problem solving, decision making, prioritization, planning, change management, results delivery, relationship management, and collaboration.

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field with more than ten years of relevant experience including leadership roles.

Experience in financial and business operations in an academic healthcare department, school, or college with clinical operations.

Experience in large academic department head, dean’s, or provost office settings.

Knowledge of HR lifecycle for faculty, staff, and students.

Familiarity with university information systems (DEFINE, COGNOS, PowerBI, Workday, etc.).

Salary

$145,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Repetitive keyboard use; occasional evening and weekend work during peak periods.

Full-time on the UT Austin campus; ability to move furniture and attend events; physical activity including lifting 15-30 pounds when needed.
