Overview

The VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS) in Portland, OR is actively recruiting for a Board Certified Staff Anesthesiologist Physician (BE considered) to care for our Veterans. Selected candidate will be considered for a faculty appointment at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and will be involved with education and training of anesthesiology residents, medical students, SRNAs, and other trainees. VAPORHCS is a level 1a highly complex VA hospital and is part of the VA Pacific Northwest Network (VISN20), comprising eight health care systems and 46 community clinics serving 1 million veterans in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon & Washington. You are invited to join the team at VAPORHCS and our academic affiliate, Oregon Health & Sciences University, providing care for Veterans while also offering training and mentorship for fellows, residents, and students. Candidates should be board certified or eligible in anesthesiology and be a US citizen with current US licensure (any state). Permanent Residents may be considered if no US citizen is selected. VAPORHCS is a major teaching and research site closely affiliated with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). It hosts about 2,000 health professions learners annually and ranks in the top 10 nationwide among VA facilities in research grant support, with over 170 investigators in basic science, clinical, and health services research and over 1,000 active protocols. The anesthesiology service provides patient-centered, state-of-the-art anesthesiology services for the VAPORHCS at the VA Portland hospital campus. VAPORHCS delivers a full continuum of inpatient, outpatient, long-term, and emergent care, serving over 100,000 veterans per year. Recognized as a Magnet Facility, VAPORHCS is a 1A complex facility with tertiary care referrals and is also a liver and renal transplant center serving veterans across the western United States. The anesthesiology service supports a wide range of surgical and non-surgical procedures; the general case mix includes general surgery, urology, orthopedics, vascular surgery, otolaryngology, podiatry, dental, gynecology, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, ophthalmology, plastics, transplant, and non-OR anesthesiology support for electroconvulsive therapy, interventional pulmonology, gastroenterology, electrophysiology, general cardiology, and interventional radiology. Cardiac surgery cases are reserved for those with cardiac anesthesia fellowship training or significant prior experience, including perioperative TEE certification. Given our patient population, there is no obstetrics, pediatrics, or trauma at VAPORHCS. Generalists should be proficient with line placement, regional anesthesia procedures, and the management of medically complex patients undergoing a wide variety of procedures. The ideal candidate is motivated to provide the highest level of clinical care for veterans and world-class education and training for trainees and students. Full-time, Monday–Friday with night, weekend, and holiday on-call duties. Anesthesiology service operates on a 5/4/9 schedule with one weekday guaranteed off per 2-week pay period and a guaranteed post-call day following the first call assignment. Qualifications
