About You
You’ll be the first dedicated finance leader at a fast-growing, deep tech start-up led by experienced founders. You will build and lead the finance function from the ground up. As both an operator and a strategist, you will own the numbers day-to-day while serving as a key stakeholder in driving business decisions. The role combines operational finance (cash management, close quality) with strategic finance (planning, forecasting, fundraising, capital allocation). This role has the potential to grow into a CFO role as the company scales. This is a fully-onsite role based in Ann Arbor, MI, non-local candidates will be required to relocate within 4 months of offer. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Finance:
Build and maintain detailed financial models, operating plans and forecasts to guide strategy, fundraising, resource allocation, and cash management.
FP&A:
Prepare and deliver clear financial reports, forecasts, and analyses for leadership and investors.
Fundraising:
Own the investor model and scenario analyses; contribute heavily to fundraising by preparing financial materials, supporting due diligence, closing process, and more.
Treasury & Cash Management:
Manage cash flow, treasury operations, and oversee necessary tasks such as invoice management, expense management, and vendor negotiations.
Accounting:
Manage the company’s accounting with rigorous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in financial reporting.
Team Building:
Build and lead a high-performing finance team over time, establishing scalable processes for financial accountability and execution.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in finance at fast-growing startups or deep tech
Prior experience in private equity, growth equity, investment banking, or consulting.
Demonstrated experience building or scaling a finance function from the ground up in a high-growth startup.
Experience building and managing a finance team, while also rolling up your sleeves on payroll, expenses, invoicing, and board preparation.
Hands-on experience managing financial audits, implementing controls, and overseeing close quality; comfortable bringing accounting in-house or overseeing accounting functions.
Proven track record building financial planning processes, models and dashboards.
Strong communicator and business partner with the ability to work cross-functionally across teams.
Low-ego, hands-on operator who can balance strategic vision with day-to-day execution; motivated by the opportunity to grow into a CFO role.
