Our client is an Arlington-based family office that's actively growing both real estate assets and operating companies. The Assistant Controller will play a crucial role in the financial management of a single family office, supporting the Controller in all aspects of accounting and financial operations, and will contribute significantly to the smooth operation of the family's financial activities, providing valuable support to strategic decision-making. The position is based in Arlington, VA and is onsite 5 days per week, with flexibility, predictable hours and an employee-centric culture.
Financial Reporting
Assisting with the preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements.
Ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
Reconciling general ledger accounts and preparing journal entries.
Analyzing financial data and providing insights to the Controller.
Accounting Operations
Managing the general ledger and ensuring proper coding of transactions.
Managing bank reconciliations.
Supporting broader accounting team including recording/reconciling cash, recording general ledger transactions and month end closings across all entities.
Property Management Administration
Overseeing the financial and administrative aspects of a commercial real estate portfolio.
Preparing and managing budgets, billing and collection of rent and associated triple net charges (property taxes, insurance, maintenance) from tenants.
Handling operating expenses, paying property bills, including mortgages and maintaining accurate records of income and expenses.
Reconciling common area maintenance (CAM) charges and real estate allocations with tenants.
Qualifications
BS/BA in Accounting, Finance.
CPA license is preferred.
7-10 years of experience in public accounting with a focus on private equity or real estate, lease accounting or lease administration.
Solid knowledge of accounting principles and practices (GAAP).
Understanding of ASC 842 lease accounting guidance is preferred.
Proficiency in financial reporting and analysis.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient with MS Office with an emphasis on Excel.
Experience with Intaact and Quickbooks suggested.
Strong work ethic and ability to work independently.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Adaptable to evolving work environments and new process development resulting from company growth.
